Hop on the American Express Choo Choo

There are two ways you can start this journey which we have used and they both involve starting it all off with an American Express credit card. The first option would be to obtain an American Express Platinum credit card and the second option would be to obtain an American Express Aspire credit card.

Getting Started with the American Express Platinum Card

When we originally ran the train that we are about to explain below, we applied, used and started with the American Express Platinum Card, so that is what we are going to use for the purpose of this post. One of the perks of having the American Express Platinum Card is two fold when it comes to hotel tier upgrades. One, you can enroll and automatically get upgraded to Hilton Honors Gold Status and second you can enroll and also get upgraded to Marriott Bonvoy Gold Elite Status.

Be sure that once you have the American Express Platinum Card that you sign up for these services as they are not automatically applied! You can find the area to enroll for these included services for your account under the Benefits link in the main American Express navigation. We have provided a screenshot below which shows what you should see in your American Express dashboard, what to click on, and where these two perks should show up in your American Express Platinum account.
